Roughing it meets glamping in Jordan Blackburn’s current installation of Authentic Bivy at ARTspace: a bivy bag or minimalist shelter printed with clippings from Canadian tourism literature. The work uses the tension between the functionality of the object itself and the grandiose language portrayed by the clippings in order to reflect on the contrived qualities of contemporary wilderness experiences.
Jordan Blackburn is an Alberta born French Canadian Artist. He received a BFA from NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, was selected as a 2016 regional winner of the BMO 1st Art! competition, and completed a six-month Emerging Artist Residency at SNAP. He has had work collected internationally and has shown in multiple group and solo exhibitions.
