Stitching Community As part of Black History month, ARTspace has partnered with the Buxton National Historic Site and Museum to showcase Stitching Community: African Canadian Quilts from Southern Ontario. This exhibition was previously featured at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto and will showcase both quilts and dolls made by Black women from 1848 to 1976. [more info] |

Lisa Marshall: Survival ARTspace is proud to present Survival by Lisa Marshall, an exhibition featuring encaustic paintings. In these paintings, microcosms or small organisms are displayed in harsh environments or places that you simply would not expect, such as trees growing in the side of a cliff or plants growing out of dead trees. Becky Fixter Vagners, Laurie Langford & Kelly Ridley: The Exhibitchin The Exhibitchin features assemblage pieces by local artists Laurie Langford, Kelly Ridley and Becky Fixter-Vagners. The works range from shadow boxes, found object sculpture and costume, all surrounding the notions of female roles and stereotypes that women have endured throughout history and into present day. Children's Treatment Centre: Mosaic Art Gala These works of art will be sold at a live and silent auction during the MOSAIC Art Gala to be held on Thursday, September 29th, 2011 at the Children’s Treatment Centre to raise funds for the Centre’s “Express Yourself” campaign in support of adapted arts programming and music therapy. Joe Peet: Joe's Drawings Joe’s Drawings is an exhibition of pen and ink line drawings featuring a variety of portraits of both family and celebrities. These works are completely unique with their graphic patterns and stylized representations. Joe’s work is highly influenced by his love of music, which can be seen through his flowing lines and repetitive patterns. [more info] |

| Ania Czerwieniec & Cornelis Peet: Nature Studies May 18 - June 25, 2011 Window: Matthew Brackett subway 'versations ARTspace’s newest exhibition features Ania Czerwieniec ceramic artist and Cornelis Peet acrylic painter. This exhibition explores both two and three dimensional works that have been brought together through the symbiotic relationship of nature and animal. The work of Cornelis Peet is strongly influenced by the traditional Dutch painting style, focusing mainly on landscape. Ania’s pottery draws inspiration from her natural surroundings of laying hens, honeybees and most directly her Purple Martin Colony. [more info] |

| Jon-Erik Kroon: florafaunalogical April 6 - May 14, 2011 Window: Kate McQuillen Luggage Bomb Jon-Erik Kroon’s exhibition Florafaunalogical utilizes organic matter including mud, leaves, feathers and the skins of small animals and birds to create paintings that reflect the Carolinian forest floor. Kroon has collected many of these materials from around his home on the Snye River, these objects have been carefully archived and placed in glass jars that can be found throughout the galleries “cabinet of curiousity.” [more info] |
