Jon-Erik Kroon: florafaunalogical Jon-Erik Kroon’s exhibition florafaunalogical utilizes organic matter including mud, leaves, feathers and the skins of small animals and birds to create paintings that reflect the Carolinian forest floor. Kroon has collected many of these materials from around his home on the Snye River, these objects have been carefully archived and placed in glass jars that can be found throughout the galleries “cabinet of curiousity.” Kroon has spent time researching the area to ensure that he is properly representing the Lower Great Lakes region by utilizing DNA sample encoded organisms. Kroon describes his works as “an attempt to advance Canadian landscape painting by physically taking the landscapes substances and colours and placing them upon canvas; actually bringing the landscape into a gallery space.” Jon-Erik Kroon received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Windsor as well as Diploma of Applied Arts and Technology from Lambton College He is a painter, printmaker and sculptor, taking inspiration from nature and the world around him. florafaunalogical will be on display from April 6 to May 14, 2011 with an opening reception on Thursday, April 7th at 7pm.
