Connecting art and people in Chatham-Kent
I use wood for my sculptures, and utilize a lathe to create shapes by spinning the wood while holding various hand (turning) tools such as gouges. The finished piece is then sanded and given a protective coat of tung oil, lacquer or wipe-on poly. Other techniques are used such as segmenting, surface embellishment, painting, marbleizing and pyrography. My forms have evolved from bowls and vases to more themed art submitted to juried shows and art galleries. As member of the American Association of Woodturners which has 16,000 members and the Thames Valley Woodturning Guild, I have supported both clubs thru art donations and demonstrations.I have also participated and exhibited at juried shows in both clubs.
