Michael Karel Ondrovcik is a mixed-media assemblage sculptor, trained silversmith, blacksmith, woodworker and welder working out of Chatham, Canada. Ondrovcik’s early influence was folk artist Sherman Burk, whose method of elemental reveal is foundational to Ondrovcik’s process. Ondrovcik uses base minerals, elements, found objects and re-purposed materials to expose their own innate experiential narratives of loss, sadness, and joy. Ondrovcik strips back the object, lets it speak, and builds its story to question the preconceived ideas, beliefs and detrimental practices in society.
Artists H.C. Westermann, C. Arnoldi, and A. Giacometti have all inspired Ondrovcik’s designs in transition towards change.
